Word Up 2018

Spoken Word artist, Sean Dennehy, has been in residence with Ardee Youthreach centre since May 2018. Sean is leading workshops on a weekly basis to introduce the participants of the workshops to spoken word, its history and correlation to other genres, (rap, toasting etc.) and devising their own response to the art form.

The project is part of Upstate’s collaborative relationships with youth work networks in Louth to assist with the further development of access and participation in the arts for younger people. The young people are investigating and being guided through the process of creative writing within the spoken word tradition. This work will be put into an historical context recognising the kinship with literary poetry, street poetry, skat, rap, hip-hop and spoken word.

The project is ongoing and will be developed towards its conclusion later this year.

The project is supported by Louth Leader Partnership. The European Agricultural Fund for Rural Development, Department of Rural and Community Development, Louth Local Community Development Committee and Louth County Council.
