On the banks of the Boyne sits a street that has a story to tell; a story of local people, working people, and the town they remember.

Ship Street Revisited is about memories, about real people’s stories retold, re-imagined and re-presented in the community in which they first took place. Weaving the oral history of an industrial age with contemporary performance technique, Upstate Theatre Project uses the urban landscape and over fifty local performers to re-introduce a town to its invisible past.

Ship Street Revisited is preformed in vacant premises and the wide expanse of a street synonymous with Drogheda’s industrial past. Using the testimony of the men and women who worked in the boot and shoe factories, the breweries and the mills and those who lived on Ship Street itself, the performance weaves installation, street performance and drama into an impressive spectacle of oral history and modern storytelling.

Upstate Theatre Project was founded in 1997 and has pursued a collaborative participatory practice since its inception. Upstate’s workshop programme  is designed as a place where people can collectively work in collaboration with artists to realise performances, such as Ship Street Revisited, based on themes, ideas and issues of mutual interest.

This DVD contains the Ship Street Revisited Performance (66 minutes), interviews with the director and performers (18 minutes) and a slide show of images (5 minutes). Total running time: 89 minutes.
